Do You Know a Senior Who Feels Isolated?

May 6, 2020
For many people throughout Long Beach this health emergency has created a heightened sense of isolation and loneliness. This issue is especially difficult for seniors who suffer from social isolation at a higher rate even during the best of times. So, with this in mind a new program is available to help those seniors in need.
The Heart of Ida, a Long Beach-based non-profit organization, helps older adults preserve independence and  offers a variety of programs for seniors, targeting both the body and the mind, including free balance and fall risk screenings, fall prevention and recovery classes, Tai Chi classes, minor home safety repairs, pet care, and other senior-support programs.
The newly launched Friendly Caller Program is a scheduled telephone check-in service and designed to provide a social connection and support to isolated seniors. These calls are in conjunction with the Long Beach Senior Police Partners.
