Our Long Beach Public Libraries unfortunately must remain closed to the public. However, I know how important our libraries are to so many people, my whole family included. So, I am excited to update you on two services they will be implementing soon: Contactless Book Pick Up, and a virtual version of the Summer Reading Program.
Starting Tuesday, June 23, our Long Beach libraries will begin offering books and DVDs to library cardholders in good standing who can reserve items online or by calling participating Long Beach libraries during regular business hours, Tuesday through Saturday. This program is called LBPL To-Go
Contactless Pick-Up at:
- Bay Shore Library – 195 Bay Shore Avenue, 562.570.1039
- Billie Jean King Main Library – 200 W. Broadway, 562.570.7500
- Michelle Obama Library – 5870 Atlantic Avenue, 562.570.1047
- Mark Twain Library – 1401 E. Anaheim Street, 562.570.1046
To offer library patrons as much flexibility as possible Libraries will extend checkout periods to 30 days for items checked out through the LBPL To-Go program until further notice.
Virtual Summer Reading Program:
Begins live on Long Beach Public Library’s Facebook page at noon on Saturday, June 13. The six-week summer reading program is available to children, teens and adults. Participants can register online using the library’s digital summer reading platform, a web and mobile-friendly application that allows users to log their reading and activities, unlock achievements and discover new books.
This program is made possible with support from the Long Beach Public Library Foundation and the Friends of the Long Beach Public Library.
Additionally, throughout the COVID-19 crisis, the LBPL has continued to serve Long Beach residents online by providing e-books and audiobooks, job development resources, homework assistance, virtual story times and makerspace instruction videos.
