A Conversation on Race

August 9, 2020
As a city and as a country we have been engaged in an important conversation on race and injustice. In addition to the discussions we are all having with our friends and family as well as the City’s efforts to engage this topic with residents Citywide, I have been hosting conversations to discuss implicit bias as well as the role of race and justice in America today.
These should be inclusive discussions where everyone can respectfully engage, regardless of our current beliefs or past experiences. I do not want anyone to refrain from participating in these discussions because they are afraid of saying the wrong thing or being misunderstood. The important thing is that we are all part of the conversation in our community. This is why I am providing these videos to ensure residents are aware and involved in this important nationwide topic.

This video features a great conversation on race with Naomi Rainey-Pierson the President of the Long Beach Chapter of the NAACP and a Third District resident.
Thank you for being a part of the conversation.
